A Regional Transit Study is currently underway to better understand and improve regional transit connectivity across Genesee County, Shiawassee County, and Lapeer County. This project is funded through the Flint Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) and in collaboration with the Greater Lapeer Transit Authority (GLTA) and the Shiawassee Area Transportation Agency (SATA). Left Turn Right Turn, a transit consulting firm, has been hired to support this project.
All three counties recognize that residents are travelling across counties more than ever, and all three agencies are providing services in overlapping areas. This project aims at better understanding how residents are using these regional transit services and if there is an opportunity for the MTA, GLTA, and SATA to work more collaboratively together.
As part of this study, we want to hear from residents and stakeholders within these counties about how current regional transit connections happen now and how it should change in the future.

The reason for the Tri-County Transit Study is to explore the potential for more integrated transit services to better meet the needs of residents in Shiawassee, Genesee, and Lapeer counties, aiming for improved service delivery, operational efficiency, and enhanced rider experience.
This study does not plan to present major changes to how transit services operate in the three counties. However, findings from this study will guide SATA, MTA and GLTA towards improving customer service, transit efficiency and reliability collectively, improving how transit operates for everyone.
The final report is expected to be completed in late fall 2024.
